Youth in Kuwadzana have started speaking out over the library that has been standing there for the past 17years. Since June 2004 Nelson Chamisa and the City Council have been holding talks in connection with the library and they promised to look into the issue but now the building is collapsing without being used .What has really happened with the opening of the Kuwadzana Library leaves a lot to be desired. The local Member of Parliament allegedly contributed some funds, but for nearly two decades now, the library remains unfinished.
Is the City of Harare playing politics with this important project or Nelson Chamisa has been using it as a votes’ barging chip for the past two terms. We had hoped that Nelson Chamisa would have used his share of the Constituency Development Fund when he was also a Cabinet Minister to finish off this library.
As youths in Kuwadzana, we are placing the blame on the Ministry of Local Government, Public Works and National Housing, the City of Harare, Nelson Chamisa, respectively, as no feedback has been provided to why the library is in its current state. As you all know with the current technological advancements hard copy books and libraries are outliving their relevance but still the Kuwadzana library is awaiting completion.

Nelson Chamisa Kuwadzana Member of Parliament, addressing an MDC-T report-back meeting in the constituency, said the library located in Kuwadzana 4 was already undergoing renovations so that it reverts back to its original use. “We have procured material to the tune of $25 000 through the money I sourced to deal with the defective roof and other structural defects, including replacing the vandalised material. We are injecting a further $30 000 for the remainder of the work to be done,” Chamisa said.
“He said the library would be officially opened soon”
Now its 4 years down the line and the library is not finish, actually is deteriorating. To his defense he says that, the relevant authorities blocked him from finishing the structure due to unknown reasons. This is just a polite way of saying I have failed to live up to the promises.
As Kuwadzana youths we feel the space is being underutilised, if they cannot go on with the library project, they just have to find other ways of utilising the space rather than leaving it idle.
